Leaving Footprints
Everywhere we go, we leave footprints, our impression on the world. Our words, our actions…they leave a mark. Sometimes that mark is barely perceptible. Other times, it’s deep. Sometimes it’s temporary, like on the beach, other times its permanent like in cement.
What kind of footprints are you leaving?

This is a great image. I'm retiring in May after 20 years and although I feel very valued and appreciated at work, I already see the shift to fill in the gap I'm going to leave. My footprints will fade over the next few years as students I have taught graduate. New students will not know who I am. It is a meaningful reminder of the impermanence of much of life.
On the other hand, all the things we do and think and say create an impact, a footprint. The footprint might fade, but the ripples fill the universe!
And sometimes the footprint doesn't fade as you think it would. A relative of mine once made an off-hand hurtful comment that ended up leaving a footprint that has been very hard to erase. One is not so important that any footprint you leave will be there forever, nor so unimportant that they leave none. It's the type and quality of the footprint we do leave that we need to be mindful of.
